AL3’s Bio:

Albert Lineses III a.k.a AL3 is the 2005 & 1998 Nightclub & Bar National DJ Champion & more importantly one of the hottest Mixmasters on the planet! Watching AL3 soar through records at lightning speed while he accelerates a crowd into a frenzy with his turntable tricks and mic rockin’ skillz, is a an experience that leaves audiences in awe & dance floors on fire!

Albert began his dream of becoming a Mixmaster after listening to a cassette tape of Grandmaster Flash’s “Adventures on the Wheels of Steel” and seeing a Herbie Hancock TV Concert featuring Grandmixer D.ST scratching on the song “Rock It”.

Albert has been a marquee name on radio stations throughout the nation, such as, Power 92, 1047 KISS, 103.9 The Party, HOT 98, KWNZ & Sassy 107. Albert has shown the value that a turntablist/love show host can bring to a radio station by increasing ratings in each of his time slots.

Labor Day Weekend 200, Albert set a world record by mixing for 66 hours live without any sleep, drugs or caffeine, to raise money for children’s charities. This feat was broadcast live from Game Works, in Tempe, Arizona on POWER 92 FM. That same year Albert also used all the proceeds from his highly successful mix CD series to purchase back to school uniforms for over 600 less fortunate children in various urban neighborhoods.

Albert’s nation-wide audience saw him on WGN, as he co-hosted the Thump T.V. Dance Show for two years in 2000-2002.

Albert is currently enjoying the fruits of his hard labor as he spends his days with his two beautiful daughters, Athena (Age 5) & Mellina (8 Months) and rocks nightclubs & radio stations throughout the nation by night!

Albert’s Mixing Technique:

Albert creates all his signature mixes “LIVE” and never uses prerecorded mash-ups! So everything you see and hear is all “AL3 Live”! This stems from the fact that Albert became a DJ/Mixmaster because he truly loves the art form of the DJ/Turntabilist. He is one of the few DJs that did not enter the game to get women or egotistical fame.

Albert’s Equipment:

Vestax PDX2300 Turntables, Rane/Serato TTM-57 Mixer, Roland SP-404 Sampler, Mac PowerBook G4 and Shure M44-7 or Ortofon Pro-S Needles.

Albert’s Top 10 DJs of all time:

Grandmaster Flash: 1st to do it and created what I consider to be the greatest mix of all time, “Adventures on the Wheels of Steel”.
Jazzy Jeff: Nothing needs to be said that U don’t already know! The Man can scratch/mix everything from Hip-Hop, Jazz to House and makes it all so damn smooth!
Cash Money: His scratches are true rhythm!
Carl Cox: A house DJ that does more than just spin records, he creates an atmosphere and entertains his audience!
Joe Cooley: The originator of the quick scratch! He was doing scratches 20 years ago that DJs couldn’t duplicate today!
Tony G.: Baddest Latino DJ to ever touch a turntable! Period!
Bad Boy Bill: Pure Energy! One bad ass DJ!
Q-Bert: We became friends in 1991 and it was obvious that he would change the DJ world forever! Even more than anyone could imagine…
DJ Woody: Has turned the turntable into an actual instrument! The dude is truly amazing!
Steve D.: The creator of beat juggling and a pioneer whose contribution has changed turntabilism forever!

Albert’s advice to aspiring DJs:

Be true to yourself and spin what makes you, you! Don’t get caught like 99% of DJs copying someone else’s style to the point that you have no identity. We are all influenced by other great DJs, including myself and we all take a bit of their style and infuse it in our sets, but you must travel beyond and make your own persona.

Be an entertainer! With DJs now using Serato and laptops, all I see is DJs looking at their laptop screens and doing pre-rehearsed sets and forgetting that there is an audience present that they should be connecting with.

Don’t base your set on prerecorded mash-ups and quick mixing songs so fast that you do no justice to the music your playing. If you want to spin mash-ups, which are just a BS word for blending or mixing, then do your own original stuff. Anyone can download someone else’s creation and spin it like their mixing it! And spinning a 100 freakin’ songs in 20 minutes doesn’t make you a good DJ! Just means that you know where all the keys and shortcuts are on your laptop!

Know your value in the DJ world and don’t undersell your talent! This not only hurts you, but every DJ looking to make a career or advance our art form.

Last, don’t allow hater DJs to bother you and your goals. If they hate on you, that just means your doping something right.
